Looking at the Bigger Picture,
Delivering Value to Society as a Whole
Hiroki Ejiri
Social Innovation DivisionManager
Worked as a municipal officer specializing in disaster prevention measures. Joined e-solutions in December 2023.
Why did you choose e-solutions?
After graduating from university, I began my career as a municipal officer. One of the reasons I was drawn to working in local government was the ability to engage in a wide variety of tasks. My first assignment was in the disaster prevention department, where I worked on disaster prevention plans and hazard maps for my assigned region. During a heavy rainfall event in the Chugoku region, I also engaged in on-site assistance.
Having grown up in Fukushima and personally experienced the Great East Japan Earthquake, I have always felt a strong connection to disaster prevention-related work. However, as a municipal officer, my efforts were limited to region-specific initiatives, and I faced challenges in expanding effective disaster prevention measures to other regions.
I wanted to contribute from a broader perspective and have an impact on society as a whole. This aspiration motivated me to consider changing careers. During my job search, I explored opportunities in the consulting industry with “disaster prevention” as my focus. That’s when I discovered e-solutions.
I was deeply inspired by the company’s philosophy of solving regional challenges while delivering value to society at large, which led to my decision to join the company.
What kind of work do you handle, and when do you feel a sense of accomplishment?
Projects at e-solutions involve close collaboration among industry (corporations), government (administrations), and academia (universities). As facilitators, e-solutions bridges these different stakeholders, ensuring the creation of holistic and optimal solutions that benefit all parties involved—a true win-win-win scenario.
Upon joining, I had the opportunity to work on a disaster prevention project utilizing drones and ICT technologies. I was involved in the process from initial concept development to implementation, focusing on designing specific mechanisms to address regional challenges.
In my previous role as a municipal officer, initiatives were often confined to region-specific activities. At e-solutions, I am now able to engage in broader disaster prevention efforts that make an impact on society as a whole. The most rewarding moments occur when I see the vision progress toward implementation in society and when I can tangibly feel the contribution of our work to the betterment of society.
What have you grown and what skills have you acquired at e-solutions?
When I first joined, I found the work style and pace to be vastly different from my previous role in local government. It wasn’t easy to keep up with the thought processes of the division manager and my team members. However, by working in this environment, I developed skills to logically organize information and respond swiftly to challenges.
Additionally, throughout various projects, I had opportunities to explore new technologies, such as drones and ICT, and incorporate them into business concepts. These were experiences I could not have gained as a municipal officer, providing me with new perspectives and approaches. Through my experiences at e-solutions, I look forward to continuing to recognize and pursue my personal growth.
